I am deffineatly in favor of not everyone getting a 1st place trophy and feeling more like you earned your trophy. This is the way USAPL already conducts awards so it is not something new. However I do have some concerns. We have a lot of lifters that would never place with this arrangement. For this reason i think you need to change from the 1st 3 places to maybe tropies for 1st through 5th place. Otherwise you are going to have a group that will quit coming to meets all together. Which hurts our sport instead of helping. I also think we could add some other awards to encourage young and new lifters like maybe a best new lifter or most improved lifter etc.
I also think we should keep equipped and unequipped separate because they are actually different events that even require different traing so it is not accurate to have the 2 compete on an even keel even with all the research and effort put into the Galileo formula. For instance a raw liftger must train full range on bench to ensure the drive off the chest. An equipped lifter can focus training on lockouts, and 3 and 4 board preses. They only need to work the top end of the lift. I also thinks this will give more compettion without everyone getting a 1 st place trophy because you could have 1st through 5th in UE and PL.
One more comment that may not be well recived is I believe if there is any cost savings some of it should go toward more aggressive drug testing. I know testing cost money but if testing is a rarity at meets then you will always have people trying to cheat. I can see that when you compare a NASA meet to a Son Light Power meet some of those people in Son Light are obviously not able to pas a drug test. But even in NASA where you see a lot of the same faces and do not see the tell tale signs of drug abuse I still think the deterent factor could be raised.
