The Natural Athlete Strength Association(NASA) held its Annual Wisconsin Banquet on Friday night, April 24th, at The Waukesha Marriott Hotel. The Marriott was the Headquarters Hotel for "The COLOSSAL One" Powerlifting Meet, which was held on Saturday, April 25th, at The Waukesha EXPO Center.
Mitchell Jackson, 10, of Oshkosh, was named the 2008 Youth Athlete of the Year, on Friday night. Jackson is only the 2nd Youth Lifter to win the Award twice. Mitchell was run over by a car, and his bicycle destroyed, in the Summer of 2008. However, his Wisconsin NASA Family chipped in to buy him a new bicycle and helmet. Jackson recovered from his injuries and was back competing by January of 2009. Mitchell holds 12 Wisconsin State Records in 4 different Weight Classes.
On Saturday, Mitchell took 1st Place in the 88 Lbs. Youth Power Sports Division with a Curl of 40 Lbs., a Benchpress of 66 Lbs., and a Deadlift of 121 Lbs.,which combined for a Total of 226 Lbs.
Brad Aldag, 19, of Sheboygan was named the 2008 Wisconsin Male Athlete of the Year, on Friday night. Aldag was recognized for directing a NASA Meet at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in December of 2008, and for introducing more Wisconsin individuals to Drug Free Powerlifting in 2008 than any other Wisconsin Lifter. Brad also took 1st Place in the 198 Lbs. Teen Bench Only Division, on Saturday, with a Personal Best Benchpress of 314 Lbs. He competed at a bodyweight of 190 Lbs. and was successful on all 3 of is attempts.
Suzanne Jackson, 42, of Oshkosh, was named the 2008 Wisconsin Female Athlete of the Year, on Friday night. Jackson lifted on Saturday and took 1st Place in the 198+ Ladies' Masters Quadralifting Division, with a Curl of 93 Lbs., a Squat of 275 Lbs., a Benchpress of 154 Lbs., and a Deadlift of 264 Lbs., which combined for a Total of 788 Lbs.
Mark Jacobs, 45, of Sheboygan, was named the 2008 Wisconsin Unequipped Athlete of the Year, on Friday night. Jacobs was recognized for his dedication to Drug Free Lifting via his attendance at every Wisconsin Meet in 2008, either as a Lifter or a NASA Official. Mark took 1st Place on Saturday in the Masters Pure(40+) 242 Lbs. Push/Pull Division with a Total of 842 Lbs. He benchpressed 341 Lbs. and Deadlifted 501 Lbs. Mark competed at a bodyweight of 227 Lbs and was successful on all 5 of his attempts.
David Anderson, 53, of Green Bay, was honored on Friday night, when he was named the 2008 Wisconsin Equipped Lifter of the Year. Anderson won The Galileo Cup at the October 25th Wisconsin State Meet and set multiple State and American Records in 2008. On Saturday, Anderson took 1st Place in the 165 Lbs. Masters 2(50-59) Unequipped Powerlifting Division, with a 419 Lbs. Squat, a 220 Lbs. Benchpress, and a 496 Lbs. Deadlift, which combined for a 1,136 Lbs. Total. All 3 of David's Lifts, and his Total, are new Wisconsin State Records. Anderson lifted at a bodyweight of 163 Lbs.
Donna Zellmer, 55, of Milwaukee, was honored on Friday night, when she was named the 2008 Wisconsin Masters Athlete of the Year. On Saturday Donna took 1st Place in the 198+ Ladies' Masters 2(50-59) Equipped Powerlifting Division, with a 375 Lbs. Squat, a 170 Lbs. Benchpress, and a 325 Lbs. Deadlift, which combined for a 870 Lbs. Total. Her Squat is a new American Record.
Bob Brodt, 59, of Cadott, was named the 2008 Wisconsin Benchpresser of the Year, on Friday night. In 2008, Brodt Lifted and Refereed in Multiple Meets in Wisconsin and Arizona. On Saturday, Bob took 2nd Place in the 275 Lbs. Masters 2(50-59) Equipped Bench Only Division, with a Benchpress of 347 Lbs.
Dale Alsteen, of Sheboygan, was honored on Friday night as the 2008 Wisconsin Referee of the Year. Alsteen has participated in NASA Events for more than a quarter of a century and won the 2008 Award by a unanimous vote.
Steve Korff, of Sheboygan Falls, was honored on Friday night as the 2008 Wisconsin Quadralifter of the Year. Korff won the Galileo Cup in 2008, set multiple State Records, several American Records, and 1 World Record.
Peter Jensen, 79, of Sheboygan, was honored on Friday night as the 2008 Announcer of the Year. Jensen has been a NASA Lifter for over 5 years and either Lifted in, or announce at, every Wisconsin NASA Meet in 2008. Peter also was the announcer for The COLOSSAL One on Saturday.
Tom Monteverde, 19, was named the 2008 Wisconsin Teen Athlete of the Year, on Friday night.
Asher Sharon was honored on Friday night with a "Coach of the Year" Plaque, awarded to him by Donna Zellmer, Lesley Boaz, and Jennifer Ebanks, who are all Coached by Asher at the Animal House Gym in Milwaukee.
Jerry Jones, 63, of Janesville, was named the 2008 Wisconsin OVERALL Athlete of the Year, on Friday night. Jones has been a NASA Lifter, Referee and a former State Records Chairman, for 2 decades. Jerry took 1st Place on Saturday in the Masters 3(60-69) Equipped Bench Only Division, with a Benchpress of 419 Lbs.
Other notable lifting on Saturday included Jennifer Ebanks, 27, of Milwaukee, who took 1st Place in the Ladies' 198+ Open Equipped Powerlifting Division, with a Squat of 512 Lbs., a Benchpress of 253 Lbs., and a Deadlift of 446 Lbs., which combined for a Total of 1,201 Lbs. Her Squat and Total are new American Records.

The COLOSSAL One posted 48 Entries, despite being up against 6 additional Wisconsin Weightlifting Events on the same weekend.
