I am trying to improve my squat depth. A lot of the articles I read say to widen my stance, and I have been slowly trying. But even at only slightly wider than my old bodybuilding style squat stance, I just can't seem to get to parallel.
I am trying to break with the hips. I box squat. I try to sit back. I try not to break my knees too far forward. I have tried just about every piece of advice, but nothing seems to work.
If I don't squat so wide, I can break parallel, (barely!) but my knees break way forward. Even here, I am only an inch or so below parallel at most with ATG. And with this more Olympic style squat, I lose a ton of power.
Any advice? Suggestions? You can see below, that is the lowest I have been able to go, but that is not during squatting. And, at that position, my hams are dead nuts with my calves, and my butt just can't go any lower.
