because it's just too easy to install a keylogger on a public machine. If I know I will have to use a public computer (e.g., away on vacation), I restrict my logins to email or accounts that are not important. Even so, I change my email password at home before leave, then change it again when I return just in case my email account was hijacked on vacation. So far, I've been lucky...

P.S. If you're still not scared of FB, do a Google on "Koobface"; it'll explain some of the FB emails you've received from "friends".
