Is MeetUp like Second Life and GotoMeetings.com? I'm quite familiar with Second Life, which is LOT of work for everyone. But I'm open to trying new things, if I have help and guidance.

: I believe the future will be Facebook (eventually).
: I check both. I like having the Master list and
: photos available via WFFCCBB but I really don't
: use the chat feature very much anymore. WFF
: Factory will publish updates on their website and
: via Facebook now so the cutting edge news isn't
: via this board. Stores are no longer selling
: specials outside of Events so I don't need to
: check this board except for contact info. I do
: think the For Sale board is still very useful to
: most collectors.
:
: Just an example:
: We have the same problem with a local art group I
: belong to (mostly older women & some men).
: Our email listserve leader was retiring from the
: thankless job she had and so the Art Group needed
: a new leader. No one would volunteer to do the
: job that she did those many years so the Group
: created a committee who basically automated the
: Art Group by using an on-line Meeting Service
: (Meetup.com). A lot of reluctance was voiced on
: the part of folks who did not like to learn
: another password and go on-line for their
: information/meeting location news or didn't want
: to get an email account! The Art Group had no
: choice since the duties were much easier the new
: digital way. Some older members did drop out (no
: one stepped forward to do the same old job) and
: we are happily managing the meetings of the Art
: Group via a different social network device (not
: FB). We actually have MORE features as we can
: easily post messages and pictures and documents
: and change our calendar meeting items much
: easier. Sometimes change is hard but it
: eventually has to happen...
