Dave here visiting from TN formerly of East Amherst. Just wanted to say hi and throw some comments out on the board. Please comment good or bad; it won't change how many Labatts I drink on Sunday.
First, who is ready to give Drew Brees his first real game of the season? Obviously the Lions suck and the jury is still out on the Eagles D this year. There's no question that the Saints have an offense that is destined to score over 20+ in every game they play this year, but their defense is average at best. Holding them to under 28 pts is crucial for the Bills to be successful on Sunday.
Defensively, the once anemic Bills pass rush has already recorded 25% of their 2008 season total in sacks and we've only played 2 games. Look for a true Tampa 2 style bend don't break D with Schobel and Maybin getting after Brees. Reggie Bush could have a big day due to the loss of Poz and inexperience at the core LB positions. Mitchel has never been that great in coverage so we'll need Ellison to continue to play above his pay grade. One thing we have in our corner are fast physical DB's that will jam the NO receivers at the line allowing our pass rush time to faceplant Drew Brees in the turf (hopefully causing him to soil himself).
The E Gun is going to have to keep up, and consistently score points if we want to keep it close. If we can control the clock, hold on to the ball and score touchdowns in the red zone we've got a chance to win. One main concern for our offense is the fact that D. Bell is averaging 4 penalties a game not to mention the fact that we lost Brad Butler last week to a season ending knee injury. Our backups are going to have to play up to the competition, and Edwards needs to get the ball out quick. Winning the fight in the trenches will make or break our ability to move the ball. Our O Line has been a question mark all offseason, and they will continue to dictate the success of our offense.
I'm excited about the game, and meeting you all on Sunday.
