Two former “All My Children” stars make casting waves.
Eva La Rue has been approached to return to the role of Dr. Maria Santos for the January 4th and 5th 40th-Anniversary episodes of “All My Children.” La Rue would be joining “Live with Regis and Kelly” co-host Kelly Ripa and Ripa’s husband Mark Consuelos should her prime-time gig, CBS’s “CSI: Miami,” and the ABC soap be able to work out scheduling for the brief return stint. La Rue would have to fly out to tape in New York City before “AMC” production ceases on December 11.
La Rue played Dr. Maria Santos on “AMC” from March 1993 to August 1997 and again from June 2002 to June 2005. Maria is the older sister of Mateo Santos, played by the aforementioned Consuelos from 1995 to 2002. Mateo is of course Hayley Vaughan’s husband, played by Consuelos real-life wife Ripa from 1990 to 2002. La Rue has enjoyed a fairly decent prime-time career, among her credits include a role on NBC’s “Third Watch” from 2000 to 2001 and she currently stars on CBS’s popular crime-drama ”CSI: Miami” as Natalia Boa Vista, a role she’s held since 2005.
From the moment the news came out that “AMC” was moving production from New York City to Los Angeles in 2010, speculation was strong that the L.A.-based Eden Riegel would return to the soap to reclaim the popular role of lesbian Bianca Montgomery. Last Monday, for the time being, Riegel shot down that idea, when she announced on her Twitter page that it looks “like it isn’t going to work out for me going back to ‘AMC’ when they move out to LA. I’m very sad.”
Riegel premiered in the role of Erica Kane’s youngest child in 2000. She left the role an Emmy winner in February 2005. Riegel has never kept the soap far from her heart, having returned for no less than seven stints since her original departure. The stints lasted anywhere from one episode to more than six months.
As previously reported, L.A.-based Rebecca Budig was convinced to return to “AMC” in the role of Greenlee Smythe. The actress, who returned to the NYC-based studio to begin taping again on Wednesday, November 4, confirms that she’s back with a contract. Expect to see the original Greenlee reappear on-screen during the week of December 14th at the earliest. Budig had last aired on “AMC” in March 2009.
