Liza listens to David rant about Amanda and Jake breaking the rules, staying out all night, doing God knows what. Liza calmly tells David he can’t control Amanda’s every waking moment. That’s why Amanda’s doing this, to get her life back. She will get her life back, David says, if she plays by the rules. David makes that impossible, Liza points out. David sighs, Jeez. He doesn’t want a child, Liza says. He just wants to drive a stake between Jake and Amanda. Jake and Amanda swagger into WW, Jake boasting that will never happen.
Everyone bickers, Amanda demanding control of her body, and David pointing out it’s about his child and her needing to be in good shape for the visit to the fertility clinic. She will be there, Amanda says, practically sticking out her tongue at him. And he better hold up his end of the bargain. That depends, David retorts, on whether she and Jake had sex last night.
David explains that sex interferes with the insemination process. Jake and Amanda swear there was no sex. They’re honoring his stupid agreement. David gets a call to see to Adam at PVH, brought in with a heart issue. Dryly, he tells Liza he’s still breathing. Please explain the rules once more to Amanda. In his wake, Liza says they’re insane to go through with this, but Amanda swears she will do anything to be a family with Jake and Trevor again. Anything. When Liza leaves, Jake and Amanda have soft-porn fantasy sex to candles.
David examines Adam. Heart rate back to normal, normal sinus rhythm, no heart attack. Annie and Scott talk to David in the hallway, accusing him of switching Adam’s meds with the same concoction he drugged him with the night of Stuart’s murder. They’re having the bottle analyzed now. Crossing his arms, David coolly notes that was Nurse Gayle who took responsibility for drugging Adam, and he scoffs at the prescription bottle. Jake prescribed those meds. Let’s hope it wasn’t another mistake. Angie snatches the bottle from David’s hand, saying Jake didn’t make any mistake.
Later, David ambles Angie’s way and tells her Adam is just fine. No thanks to him, Angie snaps. David rolls his eyes as Angie asks when he’s going to stop messing with people’s lives? These meds, she snarls, are the same makeup as the meds Adam had taken the night Stuart was murdered. David toys with Angie, noting Nurse Gayle took responsibility for that. Nurse Gayle isn’t there now, Angie retorts, and it wasn’t Jake’s fault either. Just tell the truth, she dares. Admit he switches the meds. His eyes glittering with fun, David says okay. Fine. He did this? Angie asks, incredulous. “I did it,” David says. And does she know who administered the drugs? Zach Slater. Helped by Ryan Lavery. As Angie’s face collapses, David observes they’re friends of hers, right? They were so intent on getting the truth out of Adam. Oh, yeah, David adds, come to think of it the COP was involved, too, her husband. Angie looks like she’s about to cry. Hey, David says, it was all for a good cause, right? Everyone trying to get the truth. Why, it was damn near heroic. David chuckles at Angie’s miserable expression. Sorry, she doesn’t see it that way? Fine. Sound the alarms. But remember, David warns softly, she exposes the pills and she exposes her husband, too. Angie cautions David not to think he’s getting away with this and stalks off, David smirking.
Angie confirms with Jesse that he knew all about it. It was for a good cause, he explains. It worked. Angie’s frustrated beyond belief. Here she can tie David to the drugs, except she can’t because Jesse bent the rules! David and Angie confer afterwards, David welcoming Angie to the dark side. Angie threatens to go public with the pills, just to take his license. And throw her husband under the bus? David taunts. It would be worth it, Angie explodes. She’ll change her mind on one condition. Okay, David says, his eyes ice. What is it? He steps his ass down as COS Angie hisses. David takes her measure, his eyes narrowing.
