Liza trots into WW, wanting to know what David’s proposition is? There’re a lot of lawyers out there, ones he hasn’t held at gunpoint. True, David drawls, his eyes sparkling, but she’s the only one he knows how far he can trust. And she has personal and professional experience in the issues he wants to discuss. Custody issues. His full custody of Trevor is about to change. All charm, David asks Liza to congratulate him. He’s about to be a father again.
David says a loving goodbye to Trevor, leaving with the nanny. He really loves him, Liza observes. Beyond measure, David agrees. He can’t wait to give him a brother or a sister. Liza cannot believe David’s proposal to Amanda. Does he think Jake will be okay with this? Amused, David says c’mon. He’s talking about AI, not creating a baby the old-fashioned way. Jake will holler, but he’ll get his wife back. If Amanda accepts his offer. Liza sips her coffee. He’s so generous she says sarcastically. They brought the situation on themselves, David says evenly, by keeping him from his son. He has the solution to make everyone happy. He gets another child, Jake gets Amanda, Amanda gets joint custody. A real Santa Claus, Liza says. So what’s her part in this? He needs a contract drawn up, David explains. And Amanda trusts Liza. David wants her to work Amanda, Liza deduces. Convince her to play baby factory. As slick as an oil spill, David says they both know Amanda could use a voice of reason. Someone to point out the benefits to her. And for Liza as well, David adds. Just be her counsel and draw up a contract? Liza presses. No tricks? Completely above-board, David promises. They sit and face each other, Liza telling David she’ll do it on one condition. Tell her everything. David always has an end game in mind, and he always plays to win. David is silent, his eyes twinkling. She’ll guess, Liza offers. David wants another child with Amanda, and then he’ll shred the contract and get custody of both children.
David chuckles. He’s not planning anything. He just wants another child. Amanda gave him a beautiful son. Why wouldn’t he want another baby with her? He blackmailed her into playing family with him and to stick it to Jake, Liza says. Now he wants to blow Jake’s life to hell. She won’t help hm. She’s so paranoid, David says wickedly. It’s so sad. Her son’s biological mother shows up and Liza’s so threatened she can’t think rationally. He warned her what would happen if she let that girl into her life. Liza won’t discuss that with David. She springs up, telling David she won’t be on his payroll while he messes with Amanda again. David goes after her, asking what it’ll take to make her believe he’ll honor their bargain? Marissa materializes in the doorway. What bargain?
Marissa can’t believe David’s newest deal. Liza stalks out, saying she’s not playing lawyer for David. Find someone else. Marissa asks David why? David rubs his forehead, calmly saying he wants a family. He has a family! Marissa cries. David says he knows it’s difficult to understand. Oh, Marissa says, outraged, she understands. He’s angry she married JR. So he’s ordering up another kid, one he can control who can’t think or talk back. Those are the kind of children David loves. Does he know how sick he is? Marissa yells, spinning out of control. He’s using babies to fill a void in his life! David softly tells Marissa he loves her, and Trevor, and he will love this new child if it happens. But she should know how the Chandlers treat their children, David adds. Their children are props and pawns. If Marissa ever gives JR a Junior, Junior, she’ll see first-hand how the Chandlers devour their children. Marissa reels, tears springing to her eyes. Shut up! she screams. SHUT UP! Marissa dashes out the door, David calling after her as she storms out.
Meanwhile, Amanda drives herself crazy with indecision to Jake, swinging back and forth. Trust David, or don’t trust David? He’s changed, or he hasn’t changed? Jake tells her David is unbalanced. She needs to make the decision herself. When the nanny arrives with Trevor, Jake sends her off alone with him to the park to think. Later, Liza visits Jake, surprised he’s not ordering Amanda not to do it. Jake cryptically says he won’t lose Trevor, and he asks Liza if she can make a contract iron-clad so Amanda keeps joint custody? Tad runs into Amanda in the park and he’s surprised Jake is being so restrained. Normally, he’d be coming up with a crazy scheme to counter David.
David is surprised to see Amanda return shortly thereafter with Trevor, Liza at her side. Liza says Amanda asked her to come, and Amanda tells David she’s made her decision. David’s eyes glint with anticipation. He’s dying to know Amanda’s choice? First Amanda says, he has to know why she’s doing this. She loves Jake. She wants to be with him forever and with Trevor as much as she can. She will do anything to make it happen, so, yes, she will have another child with David. David springs up, elated. But Amanda warns David she’s doing this for the future of her family. She loves Jake, not him. Don’t expect more from her than the baby, and don’t interfere in her marriage. So, Amanda says, those are her terms. Can he go through with them, or not? Beaming, David kneels in front of Trevor’s stroller. He plays with the baby’s feet, asking him if he heard that? They’re gonna make Trevor a little brother or sister.
