All regions of Texas produce oil and natural gas; Midland/Odessa (just north of Lubbock) is one of the richest. But it's just as likely David's family is huge in farming and ranching, so his being the black sheep of a filthy-rich family still applies ... while Adam is quickly becoming the black sheep of the Newmans!
