"Looking sexy in jeans and a blue shirt, David strides through the AC lobby and hones in on Nikki like a heat-seeking missile."
VI always looks great, LOL, but there was something special about the way he looked today. Maybe it was the casual way he was dressed, blue always looking good on him. His eyes were twinkling, he was high energy and wearing a dazzling smile at the sight of Nikki. I have to say it again - I love the energy level Vincent has infused into David Chow - very different than DH. He moves faster, his step is lighter and he always seems ready to dash off to take care of any emergency. LOL. VI is a physical actor, taking on the different body language of each character, all emanating from the soul of the creature he's inhabiting. He works from the inside out, which I adore!
"When Nikki asks what happened, he smoothly tells her she knows what Tolstoy says: “‘Every happy family is alike. And every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.’ Me, I’m just happy to be here with you.” Her expression faintly puzzled, Nikki laughs joyously as David wraps her in a big hug.
Loved this moment between David & Nikki. You knew these 2 genuinely missed each other. They came together with joy.
"It was a family emergency, David reminds her, Nikki interjecting that she was frantic. David’s sorry. It was overwhelming, he explains. His great-uncle was going through a medical emergency. They live in the middle of nowhere. No cell phone service whatsoever. Nikki points out there are pay phones in hospitals. David charmingly tells Nikki she doesn’t know his family in Texas. They were super-glued to him. Nikki blurts out that she thought he was in an accident. Lying in a ditch somewhere. David soothes her, his eyes gleaming as they connect. Not a chance. He promises he’ll take Nikki to Texas to meet them someday, okay? David reaches across the table to clasp her hands. He’s sorry he worried her and he vows never to scare her again. Even, David laughs contagiously, if it means walking twenty miles to Lubbock to get to the nearest working phone."
Right here I began asking myself, "What's a lie, and what's the truth?" For some reason I DO think David hails from Texas, but that's about all I feel I know for sure. LOL.
"By the way, David says, Nikki left him a phone message about a wedding-cake tasting? Does this mean, David asks happily, the wedding is no longer on hold? Well, Nikki teases, it takes tine to put a big wedding together. There’s a lot of work, and she’d better get started. David reaches across the table to mitten her hand again, his eyes alight as Nikki casts him a flirtatious glance."
I'm enjoying all the talk about a big wedding! LOL.
"Brad says he can’t. He has a poker game going. As if struck by a death ray, David eyes Nikki, then quickly looks down as Brad casually invites David to join them. David and Nikki exchange an uneasy glance, David saying, uh, no. But he appreciates the offer, David adds, carefully not looking at either Brad or Nikki."
This was excellent! VI is the best at playing all those layers, all those conflicts. LOL. I again was watching his body language in this scene, and I could literally feel his tension.
"Weakly, David asks, “Poker game?” Yep, Brad says. And they upped the stakes this time, considerably. Really? David says, looking like he’s about to break into a sweat. He sips his iced tea. Brad reminds David he thought he could handle social gambling. If he still feels that way, come on by. David cranes his neck, looking towards Nikki. He sighs. “We’ll see,” David says glumly, chewing on his lip."
Another great angst-ridden, conflicted scene for David. MAB is doing a great job with the writing for David right now, IMO.
"And we see David’s expression in a close-up, and it looks very guilty."
As I said in the thread below, classic VI! Loved it. LOL.
And I loved your title, Sy. Again!
