You might be able to get the car started in a pinch by putting a screwdriver between bat and S on the solenoid. This gets a little more oomph to the solenoid, removing the resistance of the wiring and ign sw.
What happened?
Engine vibration caused the plunger in the solenoid to wear a ridge in the solenoid. When hot, sometimes, the plunger would catch on the ridge.
Another issue is starter drive linkage wear, specifically the pivot pin and elongation of the the hole in the nose cone. The extra slop allows the spring to push the plunger farther and farther back where the solenoid has less "pull".
I've fixed the above wear with replacement parts, but a new starter and solenoid works too. Make sure to get "new" parts.
