here's another one for you guys. my last thread stated that I was having problems with my chevette not getting up to operating temp. it was also misfiring, choking out and generally running really bad at any speed other than idle. that is what made me consider switching out the carb and dist for non computer controlled ones. but when I disconnected the mixture control solenoid it ran great again! took it to Columbus and back (200 mile trip) with no issues other than check engine lite being on. ran great at all speeds, got almost 35 mpg on the highway. got back and I took a mixture control solenoid I had an extra of and hooked it up but it's not on the carb. one on carb is still disconnected. disconnected batt cable to reset computer and I have been driving it for 2 days with no issues. no check engine lite on, car runs great at all speeds, and solonoid is operating, I can feel it pulsating but again is not controlling any fuel mixture. I have it in a plastic bag resting by carb on engine. have to drive to Columbus from cinti. again today so will see how it runs. did take it on highway yesterday, no issues, ran great, no misfire at all. so my question is if it runs great with the mixture solenoid on carb disconnected and computer controlling a "dummy" solenoid why is this? I will say when I put the other solenoid on at first I did swap it out and mount it into carb and same old problem happened, running terribly, so I didn't feel the first solenoid was bad. only time car runs normally is when the computer is not controlling the mixture solenoid at all and solenoid is simply mounted in carb doing nothing. this car is an 81 but I have had 5 other chevettes, never had this issue before. any feedback appreciated.
