Because of the Opel connection, the door window, quarter window, door to body and hatch to body seals are available. The original Opel windshield seal was a grommet style like was used on US cars until they started gluing the windshield. Haven't confirmed, but I believe the Opel style could be used on our Chevettes. The other rubber parts of concern have to do with the steering/suspension. A lot is still available through normal aftermarket. A lot of front suspension is shared with the Fiero. RareParts.com sells everything steering/suspension related except the passenger side power steering rack mount. I have figured out how to use one of there other rack bushings and bond it to the metal rings of the original using two part urethane adhesive.
The Chevettes were/are used in subcompact dirt racing; especially in and around the Tennessee and Kentucky area. Because of this, JEGS sells a roll cage kit.
There may not be the same aftermarket support for the Chevette as for a Camaro. But, the idea that there is no parts availability to keep them running and for making modifications is ridiculous. Just takes a little more understanding and effort.
