I was considering dropping the oil pan to replace the gasket and looked in the shop manual (81 chevette). It seems like it would be about as easy to just about as easy to just take out the whole engine as to do what the manual says to drop the pan. I filled up with gas (8 gallons from 1/4 tank), and it took 1 1/2 quarts of oil too. Don't know just where all the oil is going, but it doesn't seem to be burning oil (other than on the exhaust pipes!). Expect I need to change out the front and rear main seals, oil pan and valve cover gaskets. Any other typical oil leak areas I need to investigate? There's the other reason I'm thinking it would be easier to just pull the whole engine.
