I took the vette out for a 40 mile (one-way) drive today. Longest yet. However, my 'check engine' light seems to be flickering. Not really "ON" and not "Flashing" some code. Just sort of flickering. I took multimeter readings at the computer output driving the light and it seems to be going from 8 volts to 12-ish up and down randomly. So I figure maybe the computer is bad. Surprisingly, I disconnected it completely and the car seems to run the same without it at all.
Anyone know if I just need to get another computer, and if so, what will work. I see them on ebay that 'works' on an 81 chevette, but came from lots of different cars. The shop manual says you need to take out the PROM and re-install it in the new computer.
Second. The vacuum driven vent dampers that are supposed to change where the blower sends air are all either not working, or the damper linkage stuff is stuck. Anyone have any experience with that stuff? Words of wisdom are appreciated.
Third. I need a replacement speaker for the dashboard. It's 3.5 x 9 or so. Anyone have info on what will work in that spot? Seems the radio only works on AM (though it's an AM/FM). But I may take the FM converter out of the 67 Bel Air in the backyard. It still works.
Before long I will have the entire dashboard removed trying to get this girl right.
