Anybody have specs on lightening a Chevette flywheel? The T5 five speed is in the car and functional, but our old (smaller) clutch is toast and we're acquiring the larger, later flywheel to run an S10 clutch like Rob does.
I read over on the Chevette racing site that some have lightened the flywheel from 17lbs to 6lbs. That's impressive, but probably farther than we'd want to go. I was thinking somewhere in the middle, maybe 8-9 pounds. That would cut the weight in half (more than compensating for the heavier, larger clutch I'd imagine) while still allowing us some rotational momentum so the car doesn't completely lose all its revs the moment we let off the gas.
So, anyone have specs? Weights? Tips? Personal experience with dos and don'ts?
And can anyone recommend a shop that specializes in this? Or do you think any racing/machine shop can do it?
Thanks,
Nik
