Hey all, just dipping in to say hey. Still reading up on things here, but I've been Chevetteless for a while. Picked up 3 Chevettes this summer and am just getting into processing them. Sold a red 82 4-door and the 87 1000 last week and using a red 84 as a daily driver. I had a pretty bad run with a couple of these cars a while back, but the little 84 4-dr is coming along OK and sometimes I forget how much fun these cars can be when you actually get some time behind the wheel
Anywho, my current ride is a poor victim of some rednecks that didn't know what they were doing. 90k original motor, 4-speed with a Sankyo aftermarket A/C unit. A/C needed a belt but actually works. Most of the computer system was melted off from the back of the exhaust system and the air pump was seized, but I found my Canadian e-bay gem carb. and stuck it on there and removed the air pump and associated tubing. Cat was long cut off. Car is solid, and runs well, aside from the 1st 5-7 minutes of cold weather driving. The choke seems to open really fast and then the car is stall city. This car came with a box of goodies and in there was a perfectly intact EFE heater. Do these things help? All my Chevette's have run bad in the winter, but with a new carb and working heater duct, something is up here. Should I re-install it? Hopefully some advice from someone who drives a later model car in below 30F weather. I've heard mixed things about them, but there's no way to adjust the choke on the car?
I'll take some pics and post em, she's a neat beast. Rick, can you e-mail with your contact info or just post it? I need some center caps and maybe a few other odds n ends. I'm getting the car ready for paint hopefully next month. Need a drivers rear door and a hood.
Thanks
-Tim
PS how about that 76 on eBay? I hate eBay...
