Andy B: Bottom line, if I had a reliable highway car already, I'd buy a cherry Chevette for $8000. I'd love it. But I wouldn't buy a 1.4, or an automatic. The 4-speed 1.6 has just enough power that it's fun to drive if you really know how to milk the power out of it. Any less, well, is a dogsled.
Here, here! I am 100% in agreement.
As even $6,000 won't meet the reserve, this guy is overzealous on his price. What usually happens is the auction will end with no bidders, he'll relist it for a few grand less, but probably will either "keep it for himself after all" or give in and take a lesser amount. The better question is how much did HE have to fork over to get the car? If it was taken in on trade value, the original owner probably got screwed. Unless this was an estate sale find...
