FWIW, I agree. For those who are just hanging onto their chevettes as long as they can for other reasons, often, its cheaper to just buy new tires than rebuilding the front end.
Mine is an 84, and I wish I could replace all the worn parts, but that is not feasible right now so I rotate the tires around and get all the safe miles I can out of them. So long as you can find a place to buy them, they are pretty cheap.
Now, can we hear some sage advice from those who have replaced their control arm bushings. One reason I shy way from it, is I am told its a real SOB to do so, and requires a machine shop to install the upper ones.
Advice and experience is formally solicited :-)
