OK, so it's getting close to winter, so it's time to buy new tires. The thing is, I'm way out of alignment, and have been since I replaced my shocks. My driver's side tire has about 30% tread inboard, and the outboard side is starting to show the belts. I also have hardened and/or missing control arm bushings, so I've got "bump steer" and some wandering on hard turns. So, I have a three-pronged question.
A. Is it cost-effective to get an alignment, or will the shop have to do enough extra crazy work that it'll end up more expensive than a few sets of tires?
B. Is it worth my time to replace the control arm bushings?
C. Will new control arm bushings save any wear on the tires?
I'm not all that concerned about the car pulling, or but I am a little concerned about how it may affect driving in the snow. I'm thinking that being out of alignment would have to make it harder to maintain traction, right? Any advice would be appreciated.
