Probably from sitting too long, then thrown into rabbit starts. There are around 6 2.8L S10's at the junkyard, all the rear ends seem to be in the same shape, though I wonder if there isn't something better out there. I don't know if one can get disc brakes for the S10 rear end, or a Posi differential for it.
Maybe a Ford 9-inch rear end would be a good investment? They're common and popular enough to have everything one would ever want to put on a car. Along with an Eaton Posi differential and around 3.40 or so for the gear ratio, and it would be golden for the car I am building. That would probably cost around $2500 or so I'm guessing.
