Wow. I'm having a little trouble understanding what you mean. Are you saying you can't push the clutch in? Or that the shifter won't press down to go into reverse? Transmission fluid would have no effect on either of these. The Chevette has a cable clutch (fluid-free) and I'd assume your MG does as well. The 4-speed specs 80/90 weight, and even if you went too heavy your problem would be in the cold, not the warm. I also know from experience that the 4-speed will work with !!NO!! transmission fluid in it. (I don't recommend that, of course.)
I have had the problem of it going into reverse without having to press down. I thought I was in first gear several times when I was actually in reverse. The problem there was that my rear mount was bad. On a Chevette, the crossmember has a rubber bushing with a bolt that holds the transmission steady. Mine was deteriorated and the tranny was hanging at a 10 degree angle from the engine. Now how your Frankenstein is set up, who knows, but I'd check to see if the engine and tranny are tight to each other, and properly supported. Failing that, I'd check the shifter linkage, I guess. I have no idea how to do that, but I'm sure somebody else here does. It sounds possible you need a whole transmission rebuild, but I sure hope that's not the case.
