According to Rock Auto's catalog, the part number for the tank changes beginning for the '78 model year, so the tank you're looking for may only fit the first two years (76-77). It appears the diameter of the filler neck hose was reduced beginning in '78 and perhaps again for 1982 or 83. Sure looks like the design progressively decreases the diameter of the filler neck hose. A Pinto-esque recall, anyone? Like Scott said, Rick Drake most likely knows the specifics.
As for the filler neck hose, I'm fairly certain that your '76 only had one hose, 2 1/2" in diameter.
