Rear wheel cylinders are the same 1980 to 1987 for manual brakes as well as power brakes. I have seen this problem over the last 20 years. We would back off the adjusters and in severe cases would change the shoes from one side to the other. If that didn't help we would install the softer lininmg. We would also take a die grinder with the 3M pad and buff thr surface of the shoes. (that is what I do to my diesel chevette). I have been at this Chevette game a long time (28) years had over 400 chevettes and think I know a little about these cars.
