Over the last few days I've pulled most of my interior out. To think it all started with my CD player quitting - it's always so simple at the start... So, I was driving along to the gym listening to ICP and I decided to instead listen to Lamb of God (as my kids were'nt with me I can listen to whatever I like)and the CD would'nt eject no manner of rednecking nor roughnecking would make it work. By the time I found the reset button it was all over for it. Oops. So I went to the local A&B Sound to purchase last years demo equipment and install a reasonable sterio in Mr.Stinky. Then I noticed that the interior, while whole, is really warping and just not sitting right any more so I replaced my spare tire cover with a piece of 3/8 OSB and re-used the original carpeting, wrapped my jack with rags and re-installed it with rubber washers on the hardware to stop the vibrations. I removed all the seats, front and rear, kick panels, side panels in the back seat, and seriously cleaned the carpet. When I removed the side panels I tore them and rebuilt them with 1/4'' pine sheeting covered with a matching exterior grade carpeting, (sound dampening material on the inside) where I put the 5 1/4'' tweeters. I think today I will replace all the cardboard panels with the 1/4'' pine as it certainly looks good with the new carpet, and stops road noise very well. Kick panels I will re-install with the sound matting on the inside as well. I also found out why my rear defrost wasn't working, the 12V+ was disconnected from the elemrnt on teh glass and screwed directly to the body of the car. Yes, every time I tried using it it was putting power directly into the body. I wonder why the fuse didn't blow? The ground side is good, and my multimeter shows me battery power on the 12V+ side... Something else to look at later. I've unhooked it for now.
BTW Mr.Stinky will have to be re-named as there is no longer (shudder) several years of McD's chicken nuggets, sauce and fries festering, imbedded in the foam pad of the rear seat. I've got a strong stomach. I was a sewer rat for a year and still work on my parents farm when needed. I have three kids (8, 10, 12) and went through the diaper stage with no problems. What was under and in my back seat was enough to make me wobble out of my garage and wait for the world to quit spinning. Or at least wait until my insides stopped spinning.
