Just finished putting new rear springs in my 84. Probably the easiest thing I have ever done on the car :-) Took my time lowering and watching for any issues, basically, it was a piece of cake.
Had my son to help, which I recommend anyone have a helper for such a job if you can.
Lifted the rear maybe an inch or two max, but more than that, it no longer sags when someone sits in the back or I load up the rear with stuff.
rockauto.com, delivered in three days for $50. Bought some other stuff at the same time. I will certainly be using them again.
The old springs went 180,000 miles, and were not cracked or broken at all. Just got a bit wimpy. If you are thinking about it, go ahead. Its pretty easy going. Not at all as challenging as the fuel pump
Oh, and I took a look at the rusty bolts holding the bottom of the shock, though about maybe mucking up the bushings, and so I disconnected the shocks at the top. Inside, its nice and clean and they nuts came right off. I think that was easier than risking snapping the nuts, or mucking up the stud.
