I was going through cleaning out some old emails and found where I had contacted Randy about getting some parts from him. He's the owner of the woody in the logo for the forum. Some of you that have been around for awhile may remember the story...
A recap as I remember it...
The woody started life as test car and spent the the first year of its life being driven to hell and back at the GM Proving grounds. It survived and then was sold to some woman in California who babied it for the next 20+ years. Eventually it came to our attention when it hit Ebay. It sold for a pretty large sum for a Chevette.
Turned out the guy who bought it had wanted a nice woody for a long time. He already had another he was starting to fix up but this one was so much better it was hard to pass up. He ended up being a member here for awhile.
He drove the car from california to I'm thinking it was OR. Turned out the ebay seller wasnt totally honest about the car. There were a few issues and some minor body damage. IIRC he had problems getting it home but he finally did and got to enjoy it for awhile. Its possible that he didn't notice everything that wasn't right about the car when some personal issues forced him to sell.
The current owner is in Indianapolis. He had to have it shipped here.
I saw the car a year and a half ago when buying the seats out of his parts car. I took several pictures of it while there. Unfortnately it had some electrical issues and was not running at that time. So I didnt take extra time to get really nice pictures.
Anyway, Heres his reply to my email:
"I still have the Woody. My mechanic will be fixing the wiring soon. I'll be showing it this summer. Like everything else, it is for sale. Maybe you'd like to spread the word. Remember that it is pictured in the header of the Chevette Forum.
The '84 did arrive. It now sports 15 x 6 steels w/ 205/50 Faulkens.
The '80 is still here, but about to go. It has a strong HO motor, and a good crisp TH200. The carrier assy and rearend are also good. If you or someone else is in need of a perfect tilt column, it's there too.
If I remember right, you wanted the lower dash. It's the last salvageable interior part on the car.
I am going to take the entire car to my body shop in Maxwell (Greenfield), IN to have the left door and left quarter removed to repair my '84. I may keep the hatch and hood too. Left is a good right door and front fenders. After that, I prefer to sell the whole car to one person. I dont have time to strip anymore from it especially engine, trans, rear, column, etc... My body shop 'may' be willing to do that for a fee. If it does not sell soon, it goes to scrap. The factory 13" wheels and tires are negotiable.
Let me know asap if you or anyone else wants to deal. Feel free to distribute my name and number to the Forum or anyone else interested. Thanks.
Randy"
So if anyone is interested in any of his stuff... feel free to email me and I'll give you his number.
