I'm 29 years old and I have been sellin my saddle for 10 years. As I grow older with age and experience, the madder I get. Today, I had surgery for an injury sustained at work that should have never happened. The reason this injury happened (if I can bottom line it for you) is that the beef industry has run off a lot of good hands due to low wages, no benefits, and a lack of caring for employees. More and more I notice the crews I have been on and my friends have been on in feedlots and on ranches have gone down in IQ and common sense. Now, maybe I'm getting older and cranky but I've got a hard time believing that because I show up to work every morning with a smile on my face and make a good-hearted attempt to get along with others. But it seems today that the modern cattleman wants to hire the dumbest person he can find that can barely manage to get the job done at the cheapest rate he can get. This says nothing for how our "industry" speaks for itself today. No wonder the rest of the world is starting to think everyone under a cowboy hat is a numbnuts or someone who couldn't finish the 5th grade. Maybe I was born too late for my own good. Maybe I should give it up, go to town, and lead a "normal" life. Or, I'm just going crazy.
This little editorial is a "Matt Rant" and in no way shape or form does he care if you disagree.
Have a nice day~
