Posted by Elizabeth Veserat I have a lot of information on the Congdon family prior to this time but don't know what happened to my great gradfather's siblings. Mary Emily Smart is found in the 1850 census in Chesterfield County living with Sylvester Pierce and his wife Adaline along with a man by the name of John Bellamy. Records of Blanford Cemetary in the City of Petersburg, Virginia lists the death of Amanda M. Smart on March 24, 1845. Amanda is the daughter of John Bellany and the wife of Henry Smart. She is 35 years old at the time and was born in Richmond VA. In May of the same year 1845, the two infant sons (3mos) of Amanda and Henry die. They were born in Petersburg, VA. The Pierce's owned Mattoax in the mid 1800's. Mary Emily Congdon owned it after the Civil War into the early 1900's. I am looking for information on the children of George Warren Congdon b. August 11, 1839 d. February 8, 1911 and his wife Mary Emily Smart b. abt 1842 d. bef 1912 (the year my grand mother, her grand daughter was born).
