Need information about James Peyton Stewart who lived in Petersburg, VA. He was a police detective who died in the line of duty on or about May of 1927. He was shot to death by two robbers, one of whom was electrocuted and the other received life in prison. James Peyton Stewart had 3 children: Bernard Winn Stewart (b. 13 Dec 1896), Russell Peyton Stewart, Jr, and Julia Meade Ralston Stewart. Compilation of this info will become a genealogical gift to a returning soldier. We, the soldier’s family, would appreciate any information, especially on his great grandfather James and James’ son (the soldier’s grandfather) Bernard.
