I am researching 1850's residents of Jamestown, Ca. which was a small gold mining camp in the Mother Lode gold district of Calif. Dr. Claiborne practice medicine there as a young man. He and his brother sailed from Virgina in 1849 to San Francisco. Dr. James returned to Virginia, served in Mahone's brigade as a surgeon and finally settled in Petersburg. Does anyone know his history?. He lived at 32-34 S. Sycamore St.
