Sorry Judy.Cant say that I know the ans.to your question about the number of freepersons of color w/o the help of a list of statistics for the area.You see,my family is of the white kind and I've never had need to research that stat.We came from dirt farmers and to best of my knowledge never owned other people.You might try surfing the Petersburg Web Site.There's a lot of historical links on it.While there are lots of Greens in Petersburg,I only knew one and he was a white boy.Do you know if any of your ancestor's relatives would have died/been buried in Petersburg?Because Blandford Cemetery goes back to late 1600's & they have extensive records in their office.You might even try writing a general letter to the Progress Index(local newspaper)and they might be interested in writing a story on your search,being from another country would be of interest.Good luck.
