Judy:I'm not related to your in any way but Petersburg is my hometown.You asked @ goldfields-nope, just peanut and tobacco and corn fields.We're a farming area of the tidewater region.As for the port your relative may have used,if he came out of VA.via water,probably Norfolk.The James River flows thru Richmond(22 miles north)and the Appomatox flows thru Petersburg.They all empty into Chesapeake Bay in Norfolk general area.Or possibly he may have used Hampton Roads port.They are all in general area on coast...good hunting to you...Bev Johnson
