Do you think heavy socialization is needed for potential protection prospects? Do you think a strong bond is needed between the typical bulldog and owner in order for that dog to dutifully protect the master? When at home or "on property", do you encourage the dog to bark at strangers? Yes/No/Why/Why not

I don't feel any socialization is required for the best dogs. The bond between a dog and owner is necessary to REALLY protect it's owner, otherwise it's just a dog with a chip on his shoulder that bites people. This could be the owner if he acts in a way the dog doesn't like. I discourage my dogs to bark at all times. Many trainers feel that the barking is necessary to build the drive to bite, but I disagree, and have proven plenty of them wrong with my dogs. It may be necessary for the furries to fully "come out", but not the bulldog/mastiff breeds.

For me, socialization begins and ends at my house. The dogs get to spend time with me every day, and my family a few times a week. If someone so happens to come visit me, they can walk through the stable and see the dogs. I dont let my pups out to play with them. As for a bond, Im still learning alot about protection work but I do feel I have a pretty strong bond with my animals. I absolutely hate barking unless there is a very specific reason to bark. Unless there is a stranger or threat present, I discourage useless barking.
