Allow me to play the devils advocate here, being as I feel like being sarcastic today with this subject being their is no trial envolved to consider who is guilty of neglect, abuse or cruelty.
Detecting Animal Cruelty - What To Look For
Detecting and reporting animal cruelty are the two most important steps in bringing animal cruelty to an end. But how do you know what constitutes abuse and how do you know what to look for?
These tips can help in detecting intentional (murdering, maiming, torturing) and negligent (starving, etc.) abuse:
W - Weight
Does the animal look thin or emaciated?
From what I have seen the average person cannot identify the difference between emaciated, underweight, conditioned, normal weight, overweight and morbidly obiese. So the people who have allowed their dogs to get to the morbidly obiese condition thats not neglect?
A - Age
Is the animal very old or very young?
Oh jeez, send out the AR folks to confiscate I have 9 year old dog and little puppy, I guess I' guilty as charged. Neglect and abuse is now age related?
T - Temperature
Is the animal outside longer than a 2-hour period in less than 10 degrees F (longhaired) or 32 degrees F (shorthaired) in winter?
Is the animal without shade in summer?
Is the animal locked in an unventilated car with temperatures around or above 70 degrees F?
(Estimated temperatures based on precedents set from past cases.)
Well I guess anyone that owns a dog that lives outside is in guilty of neglect / abuse regardless of care and shelter given...
C - Condition
Does the animal have water? Is the animal fed once a day?
Is the collar too tight? Is the chain too short?
Is their cage so small that they can't stand up, turn around, and lie down?
Is the animal's living area unsanitary?
Has the animal been abandoned? (no footprints leading to animal, etc.)
I keep a clean place, there are no foot prints in my yard.
H - Health
Is the animal sick, injured, lethargic, or distressed?
Could barking be misplaced as distressed?
If you answered "Yes" to any ONE of these questions when observing an animal, you should notify the Humane Society cruelty investigators by calling the Animal Cruelty Hotline.
Gee guilty to only "ONE" is enof to send the confiscation crew out. What do they do to you if you are guilty to more than one account? Bottom line is if you own a animal that lives outside you too might qualify as a animal abuser...![]()
