I had a friend of mine just finished selling his pups from his litter. Anyhow to make a long story short one person wrote him a check that bounced, then she paid him in some other formatt that I cant remeber what he said it was. But basically it turned out the other payment was from idenity theft. I'm not going to list a price tag but it wasnt alot of money anyways that he was asking for a pup...
It was a out of town buyer so he got in contact with the police department of the city that the scam artist lived in. And the police said they would have the local humane society come to that person house right away and take the puppy from them. My friend the seller doesnt want to press charges even though the police deparment came up with how many charges that he could press on her including a felony account of stealing a dog and taking it accross state lines which amazed me as that is a felony. Especially considering the amount of money involved over the pup.
The guy just wants his pup back, I mean if the person cant even afford the pup which was underpriced in my opinion how in the hell can they take care of it? I suppose one could point fingers and say its the breeders fault as he should have screened these type of scam artist out. He said the person came in with their kids and played with all the pups and talked for a couple of hours, how is one to really know what is in someone else's heart especially when they are intent on decieving you. At least he tells me the rest of the pups went to good homes where the owners are constantly emailing him with pics, videos and good stories saying how much they love their new pup.
But the point of the whole story is this which totally shocked me. After a quick phone call hearing only one side of the story with no proof other than word of mouth on the phone, it is legal for the humane society to go into your house and take your dog????
I totally agree that this person has it coming to them, but all it takes is a 10 minute phone call w/ no proof and it is legal for them to come into your house and take your dog? I mean what if some person just decides to get on the phone and mess with your life? Then you have to go threw the BS afterwards and prove you are inocent to get your dog back?
What the hell is place coming too? Low lives stealing dogs & stealing money and peoples idenitiy. Organizations that I dont believe are even part of the government running wild w/ no checks and balances to curb their power. And he was also informed this same local outfit that is out to confiscate and save his dog, will also put the dog down if he doesnt pick it up within 30 days....How humane of them...
So let me dream up a scenario where someone screws with you and lies to get them to come into your home and confiscate your dog. Being the legal system and the bickering back and forth that often happens in this type of thing takes longer than 30 days to prove you are innocent. Say day 31 rolls around and you are now cleared of whatever said animal neglect charges someone made up and you are free to get your dog back. But wait its day 31 and the "shelter" has a 30 days free than the dog is dead policy. So guess what you could be SOL w/ a dead dog just because say you got some neighbor that doesnt like you and wants to get back at you or just likes to mess with random peoples lives.
I guess I have read about this sort of thing unchecked power of confiscation in the past but hearing about it first hand from local people you know is different. The whole thing just makes me sick, at least the pup is coming back so it will be back in good hands.
