I think if you are going to recreate the Bull-dog of old, you need to not only research all the bully breeds, but objectively look at the history of the Bull-dog. Objectively means leave your current dogs out of the equation. Think about the original purpose of the breed, imagine how the dogs would have functioned, imagine the opponent they were facing. Also keep in mind cattle were much different in those days than today. Todays Olde Bulldog was intended to be a recreation of what the dogs were originally and most are just a creation and not a recreation of anything. What dog breeds were were used to create the EB? What dogs were used to create the Staffordshire Bull Terrier? What dogs were used to create the French Bulldog? What dogs were used to create the Boston Terrier? Now what was used to create the OEB? There are so many breeds in the OEB, that unless you created your own line from foundation dogs you have no idea what truly is in your dogs. I do think the answer to the true Bull baiting dog is somewhere between the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the EB. So is using an EB or Staffie in your program I think could be advantageous.
