We have to be concerned about once you are able to use your pets as dependants just like your children the next step for H$U$ would be to change our status from owners with the animals being our property to guardian... which is something we do not want.
The proposed "pet" deduction deal via taxes, is supported by ARs galore, and a year ago was pushed by AR groups. The legal reason for pushing this bill is to do ONE thing.
The ONE thing it would do (if passed) is to give AR groups the ability to say that ANIMALS get a tax deduction JUST LIKE YOUR CHILDREN. In case you have not noticed, "children" are the excuse used by H$U$ to say child abuse basically equates with animal abuse. H$U$ claims that child porn and animal abuse (like in Stevens case at Supreme Ct) are equal. H$U$ argues in CA that animal abusers should never own or be in contact with animals, because it's like child abusers---they don't stop?
H$U$ has a pattern/practice of using guardianship for animals, gleaned from family law. Using animal "abuse", gleaned from child custody law. Using forfeiture law, gleaned from criminal law. Using seizure, gleaned from forfeiture law. But when H$U$ now tries to categorize "selling" of animals
People---there is a continuing LEGAL pattern with H$U$ et al. That pattern is very clear, and for those who can see legal deception, H$U$ knows little bounds. H$U$ subscribes to the belief that animals are equal to children, so what better way to get a law?
Make pet animals have a tax deduction which puts them on SAME par as children.
[Remember---this is a FEDERAL bill!!] Can you imagine H$U$ down the line, saying animals and children are both documented deductions in the law by referring to this? Trust me, this is the exact motivation H$U$ has in mind. I don't care who claims to sponsor the bill.
If If your animals are part of your hobby biz, you get to deduct the expenses anyway. If you rescue 5 dogs a year as a side biz, you might make $100 but after expenses, you will be in the hole, as most rescues are. Any "rescue" can lose $$$, they all do. Except H$U$ who doesn't actually rescue animals. It's easier to have *any* home based biz to write off deductions. It is not hard to do.
I am very disappointed in Bill's stand on this with PetPac.
