If there was ever a time in your life when you weren't into alternative or even pure bred dogs, think about all you didn't know and that's probably still more than most folks do know. I mean, what do you need to know to get a cute puppy for little MaryJane? Think about "How much is that doggie in the window?" that pretty much sums it up.
1 - I think most folks are even aware that there is anything such as "breeding worthy" If it's AKC, it's got to be good, right? Breed Standard what's that? It's a Lab. It looks like a lab and acts like a lab, therefore it's just as good as any other lab. Titles? Well, showing is just for snobs who think they're better than anyone else. It's boring and who wants to spend all their time training a dog to stand still in a ring? They'd rather watch football.
2- For many, dogs are like their kids Theirs are always the best and brightest regardless of indications otherwise, so of course they'd win that championship and their pups will be top notch so why not make some money off your investment. Besides, MaryJane will get a life lesson by seeing the pups being born.
3- Everything out there is saying shelter dogs are the best so an AKCer (that is the only registry you know) got to be greater than great doesn't it? doesn't matter that many of the dogs in the shelter are there because they have health or behavioral problems.
