Evolution Bulldogges
I was working tonight on a bathroom tear out and was visited by a guy and his ugly yellow Lab. I'm not saying Labs are ugly, but this one was not only unimpressive, but a poor representation of the breed. As we began to talk, he let me know all about his desires to breed his "Full AKC Registered Labrador Retriever". When
I asked him why he wanted to breed him, his response was, "why not?" I asked what health testing had been completed. None. I asked what titles he has earned. None. I asked if he was from champion lineage. No. Is he establishing a bloodline? No. Then why? "Because that's $400 a puppy people will pay for these dogs."
I explained to him why this was an illogical idea, which led to further thought on the topic. I was wondering what the general public as well as my fellow breeders believe determines a dog as "breed worthy". I would really like some feedback on this, since I have my own ideas on the topic, but I know very well that I do not often think the same way others do. If you have some ideas, or thoughts to share on this topic I would be very interested.
