Hello Mar,
I'm sorry to hear about your cat.
Although you couldn't be there when it happened,
your Mom was. I had an abandoned street cat who followed me home one morning and ended up moving in.My Mom really loved him too. His name was Buddy, and I used to call him the little brother that I had always wanted. I
had him for 10 years, and the vets think he was about 15 when he became "a Heavenly dude" as I like to call it. 2 years later, I lost Mom. I see from the picture that your cat still had claws. So did mine, because he had lived on the street so long, and wanted to go out a couple of times per day. He really enjoyed his backyard, and once in awhile would get into a scrap with other cats while "defending his turf". The vets told me he never would have lived so long if he hadn't had such good care and a loving home. In light of your cat's age,17, I now pass those words along to you.The experts all say that each of a dog or cat's first 10 years equals approximately 7 years to a human's growth cycle. After that, each year is approximately 4
human years. I've taken great comfort that Bud lived to be " 90 ". Your cat: 17 years @ 10 x 7
= 70, plus 7 x 4 = 28, 70 + 28 = 98. I think
it's safe to say that because of you and your family, your cat lived to be a ripe old happy
and healthy dude. I'm also sure he gave back every bit as much as he got. I had never had a pet before, other than goldfish ,frogs, and turtles when I was a kid. I knew Bud's health was failing during those last few months, but when it finally happened I was never so sad in my entire life. My friends Bill and Carrie and their daughter Kate ( I was their best man ) had had pets all their lives, so Mom suggested I call them. I got so choked on the phone that I couldn't talk. Bill said to me, " First of all, you're not alone. Secondly, in order to avoid the pain of the last few months, would you have been willing to have given up Buddy for the first 9 1/2 years of happy times ?" The answer was obvious, and I think about that often.
One phrase that has helped me get through many facets of life for many years now is
" Heaven's Will Be Done ".
God bless all of you Mar. Warren
