Dear Friends,
It's a sad day today, Challenger is gone. It has been such a short 7 years since he came into my life from Leonard's in Chino. So many people
banded together to help save him, and I have never forgotten how powerful we all felt that day.
We never knew his real story, but it must have been a good one. Our vet guessed his age in the mid 30's. If he could have talked, I bet he
would say 'I've had my moments, my days in the sun, in the ring I was second to none...'
In the last month he had really shown his age. He often didn't finish his meals, and walked instead of ran with the herd. Last night he ate
dinner, then went out to graze. I found him down in the pasture this morning. Got him up and in his paddock. He didn't eat, and wanted to
lay down and roll.
Our vet tried the normal course for colic, but he didn't respond at all. The vet felt some structural abnormalities that led her to believe
he had a twist. No gut sounds, and he was still trying to roll after 2 doses of pain IV.
He laid back down and closed his eyes. I believed he was tellng me that t was too much, so I let him go. We were all there with him at the end,his head was on Austin's foot and Carson rubbed his neck.
I knew this day would come, but I can't believe it did. He had a good time with us. He was safe and had us all at his beck and call.
Stephani
