I ask because it affects the consistency of the gruel - fewer teeth means a more liquid consistency, more teeth not used enough would suggest a less liquid gruel. I'd start out with a 2 parts senior/1 part hot water, stir it well, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes or so. Might take more or less time depending upon how readily the Purina absorbs the water. I'd use hot water (not necessary) simply because that would tend to be absorbed faster. You might try adding some beet pulp shreds to the mess - that will take longer soaking and more water, but some horses just LOVE beet pulp and it stimulates their appetite. Best of luck!

Cathy, I know that the Nutrena Senior will 'gruel' nicely. Haven't tried the Purina as a gruel, but it should do equally well.
