Need ideas for gruel/mash for 32 yr. old mare

My 32 year old mare choked this morning and the vet has recommended I switch her feed to a gruel or mash consistency. Right now, she's getting a mixture of Purina Senior feed and soaked hay cubes and is keeping good weight. Any ideas of how I make this into a gruel/mash? Not sure if the senior feed will soak up water (no time to try it yet!). TIA. cathy
