Posted by TIER Your contributions have made it possible for the TIER residents to continue to have ‘pedicures’ and they are all ready to dance the night away! Dolly appears to be quite pleased with her new shoes! Jo Jo (Banjo Jet) received her first real trim and was none too happy with the procedure. But, she is definitely her mother’s daughter (Skyline Jet) as she is quite level headed. After some initial resistance, she accepted the fact that she was going to have her tootsies trimmed and behaved wonderfully. As a result, she now let’s us halter her without a fuss, gives to pressure fairly well and is sporting her very own purple trimmed fly mask!! We are very proud of this little girl and glad that she inherited Skyline Jet’s good nature, good mind, and loving attitude! WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP WITH THIS ONE! Needless to say, we will NOT be using that particular hay supplier again. Because the hay we did purchase was of lesser quality & weight, we had to feed more than normal and also supplement with pellets. 3 tons of pellets usually lasts us 3-4 months but we have gone through that in 2 months. We are also adding other supplements (vitamins, bagged feed & oil) in an effort to weight on the horses and help them get ready for the approaching cool weather of our winter. As you can see, our efforts to conserve funds didn’t work out as we had hoped and we ended We now need to order good hay from our original supplier and our funds are minimal. A truckload of hay (orchard and timothy) which will last 4 months will cost $3000. Hay needs to be ordered now as our supply is rapidly dwindling. Please donate today so the residents will have good quality feed tomorrow!! PEPPER made his journey to the vet’s office! As you may remember, Pepper was experiencing What an awful fly season we have had! The rains of last year have put everyone in the area under a huge fly blanket! HA! But........we have great news!! As you know, Buck, our old soldier who suffers horribly from fly allergies, has a tough A good friend of TIER also has a horse who suffers from fly allergies and she was using a herbal product called Immune Builder from Blue Ridge Distribution which was showing wonderful results. We contacted Blue Ridge, explained Buck’s problem and they promptly sent us some of the herbs to try. After 1 week of using the Immune Builder, Buck was NOT wearing his fly defense outfit, there were no NEW welts/hives A BIG thank you to Lisa, Kayla, Hailey & Peggy, who helped with our last clean-up party. Lisa & Kayla just jumped right in cleaning pens, picking out hooves, grooming, etc. They were like a whirling dervish full of activity and everything Thank you for your continued & generous support. We need your time, your talents and your donations to continue to help the horses. By helping TIER, you can ensure the continued care of the residents. Please consider donating your gently used tack and equipment as these items will Contact: tiervoluntier@yahoo.com Donations help purchase the necessities. THANK YOU FOR HELPING THE HORSES WITH

Hi all!
In an effort to conserve funds for farrier care, medical needs, worming, supplements, etc. a decision was made 2 months ago to purchase hay from a different supplier at a lower cost. Unfortunately, this was not one of our better decisions. Although the hay was less expensive, the bales were lighter and the quality is not very good at all. When the supplier was contacted about replacing the hay with a better quality product, we were told that this wasn’t possible.
up spending MORE due to having to add additional pellets and supplements to the daily menu!
a nasal discharge that the vet originally thought was due to a blocked tear duct. The vet examined Pepper and, due to his fearful personality from past abuse, the vet asked that he be brought to the clinic so he could be sedated for the x-rays.
The films (4 different x-rays were taken) indicated a mass in his lower sinus. Since Pepper was already sedated, the decision was made to use a scope to get a better idea of what the mass actually was. Unfortunately, the x-rays & scoping
could not confirm whether the mass is a pocket of infection or a tumor. The only way to find out for sure what the mass contains is by surgery. Since the discharge did respond to antibiotics previously, the vet suggested that we again administer them but in a bit higher dosage and frequency for 10 days. After giving Pepper
the antibiotics for that time period we will revaluate the situation before making
any more decisions. Hopefully, this treatment will give Pepper some positive results! We will also need to give him some pro biotics as the treatment will be harsh on his system. We are looking into purchasing Pro-Bi from Advanced Biological Concepts.
time during fly season. He is usually outfitted with fly leggings, fly sheet, fly mask, covered in SWAT on his legs/chest/muzzle, and sprayed w/fly spray throughout the day. This year, we were very concerned about how Buck would fare.
and healing had begun on the existing areas! We are speechless! We thought that the product would most likely "plateau" and then quit working as so many other products have. Not the case at all! In fact, we purchased more for Buck and also used the herbs to help SueAnn after her surgeries. We are hoping to purchase more for Pepper. It is a huge relief to find a product that continues to work!
was spic & span in record time. Peggy scrubbed so many waterers that I’m sure her hands looked like prunes. Hailey got lost on the way which didn’t allow her a lot of time before her mother picked her up. But, while she was here she made
sure some of the horses got a thorough brushing! Manes & tails were flowing and all the residents received some great glucosamine horse cookies from Blue Ridge. Thanks so very much ladies!
be used for fundraising in our annual tack sale. Remember, your tax deductible donation of equipment aids the horses! We have several ideas for upcoming fundraisers and ask that you please commit your time resources to help us continue our efforts.
