Posted by Elizabeth T. I need input from all who’ve experienced equine ulcers…Anyone also had a horse with ulcer/irregular heart rates??? Please help!!!! 8/15 Monday I paged the vet right away. He suggested a possible stomach ulcer, and advised me to give her 8-10 ounces of Malox or Milk of Mag. A quick trip home to get a 60cc/2oz. syringe, and a bottle of Malox, and I was back at the barn. I used the friendly game to introduce the loaded syringe, then held her halter and put my finger in her mouth, then the syringe---and depressed it. Well, 5 syringe fulls later.....She’s stopped the teeth grinding, and pigging out on her breakfast…The vet’s coming out tomorrow and thinks it’s an ulcer. So, in addition to checking for the stomach ulcer (poop sample/ i.e. blood in stool), he also took blood, and did an EKG. I searched the Internet, and found one article that linked the stomach ulcer to carrying the tension in other parts of the torso, i.e. irregular heart beats. The vet didn't mention a link between the 2.......He suggested an infection, or heart problem. Well, I bought this horse 4/29/05 specifically to be my PNH partner & levels horse----AND I did a pre-purchase exam! I think the vet would have noticed a heart condition then if she has one??? I’m praying it’s a treatable infection or a side affect from the stomach ulcer…I’ve taken her off her oats & grain, and am touring a new barn today with a 30 acre grass pasture- as the articles I’ve read suggest getting the horse in an environment where they can graze all the time. I am not going to get the test results until much later today, and I'm nervous & scared. Please keep Fancy in your prayers. I am really scared about her heart, and hoping that it's related to the poss. ulcer. Elizabeth & Fancy

Hi all-
I got out to the barn, and found my girl grinding her teeth- and 1/2 interested in her feed & carrots. Normally she is a pig, and very motivated by food.
8/16 Tuesday
Our vet came out (monthly barn vet day), and did a physical exam of by girl, and found that her heart is missing beats (irregular beats). She was soooo good standing for him, again my calm kept her calm.
Officially PNH Level 45%
