I've had to put a grazing muzzle on my fat guy, for the Equine Metabolic Syndrome/insulin-resistant issues Connie previously mentioned. I've noticed the heavy rubber mouth-guard part wearing out quickly around the center hole, and fat boy has figured out how to suck a tremendous volume of grass through the little hole. He grabs the tall grass spears at the tip, and sucks them straight in like spaghetti. My vet suggested stuffing a cork in the hole, but I suspect it won't stay. I'm going to trim a rubber floor mat to size, with a lot smaller hole, and shove it in at the top. I don't want to block the hole completely, but the way it is now, he's able to eat way too much. (I considered duct tape, but that would be gone in minutes.) Hopefully, this will slow his intake way down, without making him too frustrated.
