I had her on the LaminaSaver supplement after she foundered and this really helped to grow new hoof quickly. Thank heavens she's been fine. If there is a day with high sugar grass, I don't put her in the pasture, I put her in the riding ring with some hay. Get ready ... you'll become a grass expert and a hoof expert in a matter of weeks! :-) I think the barefoot trim helps too!

I think there's a website called safegrass.com that has some good info about this. My mare foundered about 3 years ago when we had a drought situation and the grass was stressed (which produces a lot of sugar). The best time to graze (if you can graze at all) is in the morning until around 10AM (as long as it doesn't go below 40º at night). My mare also received her yearly vaccinations around this same time, which further supressed her immune system. It was after the vaccinations that she foundered. Then we ran the tests and found out she was insulin resistant. Now I only vaccinate for West Nile and Rabies.
