If you use them for lure casting then you will discover the Alveys one weakness - linetwist. Easily fixed by running the line out in either sand or water the distance of you cast and dragging it along a short way and the line will untwist. When baitfishing the usual remedy is to use two swivels with one at the top of the rig attached to the main line. Use quality swivels that will actually work such as ballbearing types and check regularly to remove sand from clogging them up. If using a gang hook rig or lure a single ballbearing swivel fixed directly to the last hook/lure eye will allow you to repeat cast without twist problems especially if you develop the habit of squeezing the line tight between your fingers as you retrieve so that any line twist that does develop is pushed to the end of the line and will untist when you lift the bait from the water. You can easily do this as you need to guide the line onto the spool with your finger anyway. I've used Alveys a lot and not had problems with line twist by following these ideas. Others have not and become exasperated Alvey haters. They take a bit of getting used to but the advantages of direct contact with the fish and the no-worries sand proof design grow on you. Being able to wind line out backwards to allow a fish to swallow the bait is also another big advantage. And also if you rock fish you will find two advantages there are being able to put the brakes on a fish completely and also the direct wind allows you to lift and wash fish in much more easily so need a net/gaff less often. Have fun, Andrew.
